We met with the palate surgeon today. The Boy got his splints off! WOO! He’s a very happy baby about that. We hadn’t even gotten out of the parking garage when we heard a sucking sound. We turned around and he had one finger in his mouth, sucking for all he was worth. The look on his face said “Finger! I have a finger! It’s in my mouth and no one is stopping me! FINGER!!!!” Poor baby! He’s also happier about drinking now that he can do it on his own too. We’re working on foods, but he still has restrictions. He can’t have anything hard (cookies, crackers, yogurt bites, apple slices, etc) for another 3 weeks because of the risk of puncturing that palate seal. Some of the sutures have dissolved but not all of them. Still…we’re working on finding soft foods for him. Fruit snacks, pureed fruit in the squeeze tubes, maybe bananas…he’s always been iffy on fruits. We’ll have to try several things this weekend so we can stock up his cubby at daycare since they tend to feed them harder foods…which is fine, because that’s what we feed him at home, just not right now.
As an aside: If any of my older posts appear in your readers, I apologize. I am trying to convince myself to put my blog out there for other people to see and that means editing some posts to take the Boy’s name out. He will henceforth be referred to as The Boy (or the Boy). Since I’m editing the posts for the last 17 months, there’s going to be a lot of changes that might make them show up as new. Sorry about that!!

/ September 16, 2012Yay! No splints!!! Are there certain fruits he likes better than others? Would he liked baked fruits with some cinnamon, like pears or apples or plums?

/ September 16, 2012Fruit snacks, like the Welch’s, seem to be a hit right now, and they’re soft. The problem is he likes them SO well that he had a diaper rash for the first time in a long while last night. Going to look and see if I can find something similar in veggies, so he has a mix.

/ September 16, 2012Awesome!! What about steamed biscuits? Those are soft, and you can throw any kind of filling in.

/ September 16, 2012Bread? Of all the horrors! That’s one of the things that makes me say “Can’t be my kid!” I love bread, Aaron isn’t a real fan. Cole will rarely touch it!
